Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis to Star in New Wachowski Sci-Fi Flick Jupiter Ascending?
With the Wachowskis currently finishing up post-production on their next film Cloud Atlas, based on the book by David Mitchell and co-directed by Tom Tykwer, they are starting to look ahead to their first original project in almost a decade. That project is called Jupiter Ascending, and if all goes according to plan, it will be a return to the sci-fi action genre for them and could potentially launch a new franchise for Warner Brothers. The plot is being kept under wraps for the time being, but this week we have word on who the two lead actors will likely be: Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis. Slightly unexpected choices to be sure, but both are rising stars in Hollywood right now. Will this movie cause their careers to skyrocket in the same way it did for the cast of The Matrix? According to Deadline, Tatum and Kunis have been offered the two lead roles in the film, but have not accepted as of yet. There is no reason to believe that either would turn it down as this is clearly a pretty huge opportunity. While Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis are not really known for their dramatic acting ability, both have shown some unexpected versatility as of late (Tatum in particular with Haywire and 21 Jump Street and Kunis with Black Swan). There is currently very little known about this movie aside from the title, however it is definitely not the same script that they were shopping around a few years ago about a gay relationship between a U.S. soldier and an Iraqi. Somehow I can't help but be reminded of Alfonso Cuaron's upcoming sci-fi film Gravity, although there is little reason to think they will have anything in common other than an outer space setting. Are you looking forward to a new sci-fi film from Andy and Lana Wachowski? What do you think about these casting choices?
